About the show
Just as the third season of Married at First Sight wrapped up, its spot was immediately occupied by another take on marriage-related difficulties in the new Bride & Prejudice series. The series premiered on March 15, 2016 with a six-episode freshman season. It is produced by Kinetic Content and executive produced by Chris Coelen, Katie Griffin, John Platt, Gena McCarthy and James Bolosh.
The series portrays three couples who are head over heels in love and planning to tie the knot, but have to overcome their families` judgmental resistance in order to achieve harmony. There is a gay couple from Boston, an interracial couple form Houston and an interfaith couple from Baltimore, all striving to demonstrate to their families that racial and religious differences, as well as sexual preferences are superficial, while the feelings that they share are what is truly important.
Social relevance, viewership and possible renewal
The series reflects on important issues that are very relevant in contemporary society, and does it in a relatable manner. Issues of prejudice are at the forefront of the society`s attention, and any creative content that strives to break the stereotypes is definitely welcome. The most recent episode of Bride & Prejudice averaged 118,000 viewers, and it`s not exactly clear whether or not this level of viewership will warrant a renewal.
