About the program

A Flame Television production for BBC One, Heir Hunters is a television program that centers on the attempts to find missing or unknown heirs to the unclaimed fortunes of deceased people. It is executive produced by Matthew Gordon and Roger Bolton, and presented by Lisa Faulkner. The series chronicles several of the probate research companies` operations. The firms featured have been Celtic Research, Finders International and Fraser and Fraser. The show`s been on the air since 2007, and the current 10th season has premiered on February 29, 2016.

Who hasn`t dreamt of an unknown fortune dropping on their heads in the most difficult moments of life? Most everyone has, and it`s definitely curious to see how it works. The heir has to be found in a limited period of time, before Her Majesty`s Treasury can lawfully claim the money. The firms portrayed mostly work by going through newspaper obituaries and then investigating to see whether there are any heirs to the estates of the deceased. If they are lucky, they do find an heir and receive a commission for doing their job.

Controversy and chances of renewal

The series boasts an 8.2/10 IMDb score and attracts significant numbers of viewers. Heir Hunters, has, however, come under constant fire for featuring unethical investigator firms who may charge the unsuspecting heir an unreasonable share of their inheritance, before even disclosing any details, such as the total amount of the estate, or the name of the deceased person.
