Series concept and info
A six-part ABC AU original mockumentary web series Dafuq? is written and directed by Henry Inglis and Matt Lovkis and produced by WA production company Mad Kids. It premiered on ABC iview on February 15, 2016. The sketch comedy episodes are produced in a 15-minute format.
The show is a parody of the trendy online gonzo “journalists”. The “edgy” reporters – Pandora (Amberly Cull), Rift (Inglis) and Lee D (Lovkis) are fully ready to prove that they are willing to go where mainstream media won`t and pose the questions that are too much for others to handle. The nerve-grating hipster trio are also avid travelers, and their investigations of the most poignant issues take them to places like Syria and Egypt. Some of the domestic issues covered are pornography and pedophilia. Basically, the intrepid threesome is out to prove that theirs is the only media source that`s worth listening to, and they are overly annoying and ignorant in their attempts.
Reception and chances of renewal
The viewers seem to enjoy the tongue-in-cheek parody of trending citizen journalism, and the short format is appropriate for the rarely complicated sketches. The show is a bit too in-your-face, but making fun of posers is certainly enjoyable, some of the times it feels eerily realistic, but at times is just obviously forced and uneven. Will it find enough viewers to be renewed for another season? No announcements have been made by the network yet, so please stay tuned for relevant updates.
