Summary, plot and cast
A British criminal drama, Vera is based on the novels and characters created by Ann Cleeves. The series is produced by ITV Studios and executive produced by Elaine Collins, Kate Bartlett, Kate Lewis, Michael Dawson and Myar Craig. It has been a ratings success in its run since May 1, 2011. The current sixth season has premiered on January 31, 2016. Each episode lasts 90 minutes, so Vera is practically a series of movies.
Somewhat disheveled, but a truly gifted detective, deemed by some a female counterpart of legendary Detective Colombo, Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) has her own skeletons in the closet. As she investigates cases along with her friend and right-hand DS Aiden Healy (Kenny Doughty) (DS Joe Ashworth (David Leon) in series 1-4), and faces her demons, the audience is mesmerized by the intricate storylines and excellent acting.

Vera`s sixth season has premiered to 5.19 million viewers, a number higher than the acclaimed War and Peace` viewership in the same week. Throughout its run the series has enjoyed steadily high viewership rating averages, and has garnered critical acclaim. Viewers applaud its compelling, intelligent detective plots with no excuses made for distractions. Vera`s character is a richly multidimensional one, she is an intelligent, mature woman who is blunt, yet kind, alone, yet very compassionate, and very likable. Vera airs internationally in Europe, Canada, the US, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
