About the series
Recipe for Deception is a US reality / cooking competition series that debuted on Bravo on January 21, 2016. The series is produced by Embassy Row and Realizer Productions, executive produced by Shauna Minoprio, Matt Berkowitz and Michael Davies and hosted by comedian and actor Max Silvestri. The first season of the show is comprised of six episodes. Chefs Chris Oh and Jonathan Waxman are the judges.
The series follows an elimination format, with four chefs per episode in a head-to-head competition. The innovative twist on the regular cooking competition is the integration of the undisclosed component that has to be part of the dish. Each chef has an opportunity to pose three “yes or no” questions to the others in order to find out what the mystery ingredient is, and two truthful answers and one false one are given. In the final round the chefs who were already eliminated have a chance to get back on the show by trading valuable info. $10,000 is awarded in each episode to the one who has cooked up the most delicious dish and has incorporated the secret ingredient in the best manner.
Reviews, ratings and renewal prospects
The fast-paced, refreshingly fun series has a structure that might seem confusing at first, but proves entertaining and is easily clarified by the charming host. Recipe for Deception premiered to 421,000 viewers and a non-impressive 0.16 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The series` February 4, 2016 episode fell to 296,000 viewers and a 0.11 rating. The renewal decision might go either way with ratings that are questionable, but a concept that seems promising, so let`s wait for relevant news from the network.
