About the series
BBQ Pit Wars is a new American reality television series that features BBQ chefs as they travel around the country to participate in barbecue cooking competitions. Produced by Citizen Pictures, season 1 of the series premiered on Destination America on May 26, 2014.
The series is a competition that shows off the country’s top barbecue chefs as they battle to see who is the Baron of Brisket, the Prince or Pork and the Squire of Sauce. Each episode of BBQ Pit Wars follows four professional barbecue teams who slather, slice and smoke their most delectable recipes in various competitions around the country for the coveted title of Pit Wars Grand Champion.
Season 2 of BBQ Pit Wars, which premiered on July 23, 2015, kicked off with The Smoke on the Water BBQ Festival in Thomaston, Georgia. Location is the name of the game this season, with each venue presenting different challenges that grill masters must overcome. With tougher competitions and over 50 teams vying for the grand prize, the series is sure to heat up with sizzling drama.
So who will take down the 20-year vet of the BBQ circuit, Myron Mixon? More importantly, will BBQ Pit Wars continue for season 3, or go up in flames? Viewers will have to stay tuned to find out. Destination America has not released any statements regarding a possible renewal, but if the ratings continue to heat up, the network will likely commission new episodes to air sometime in 2016.
