Basic info and storyline

Show Me a Hero is a new American drama series currently airing on HBO. Based on the bestselling novel written by Lisa Belkin, former New York Times writer, and scripted by David Simon and William F. Zorzi, the six part mini-series premiered on HBO on August 16, 2015.

Set in Yonkers, New York during the 1960s, Show Me a Hero is based on a 1999 book by the same name and explores race and community through the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats and ordinary citizens. The series follows Nick Wasicsko (Oscar Isaac), a young mayor, who is forced to deal with a court order forcing him to build low-income housing units in white neighborhoods. Nick grapples with the decision that can lead to potential social unrest and political downfall.

Season 1 of Show Me a Hero stars Winona Ryder, Jim Belushi, Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina, LaTanya Richardson-Jackson and Bob Balaban. HBO initially commissioned just six episodes of a mini-series, critic ratings have been high. With praise from Los Angeles Times, who called it a “magnificent new miniseries” and Variety, audiences seem to like the content as much as they do the expected drama. The series boasts a 96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and “universal acclaim” from Metacritic. While HBO has kept quiet about the future of the show, audiences will likely see the Show Me a Hero season 2 in the not so distant future.
