Cuban Chrome is a ground-breaking American documentary TV series that was produced entirely on location in Cuba. Produced by Pilgrim Studios, season 1 premiered on the Discovery Channel on July 23, 2015.
Cuban Chrome is a docu-series that explores the truly fascinating world of Cuba’s vintage American cars that have been frozen in time due to a U.S. imposed embargo to the island nation after the 1959 Cuban Revolution. The series follows member of A Lo Cubano Car Club and their tremendous efforts to preserve their cars for generations to come. What’s interesting about this series, is that producers received permission to film prior to the historic announcement in December 2014 that the U.S. and Cuba were re-establishing diplomatic relations.
Season 1 of Cuban Chrome consisted of just six episodes, with the season premiere titled “Stuck in a Time Warp” featuring one of Havana’s top mechanics trying to restore a 1958 Chevy Bel-Air. Fans have embraced the show not just because of cool cars, but because of a very real fascination with Cuba. While the Discovery Channel has made no announcements regarding a possible renewal for a second season, fans are waiting for Cuban Chrome season 2 with baited breath. If the ratings are up to par, we may see this docu-series return for another round of vintage cars in Cuba sometime in 2016.
