Series info and concept

Restaurant Startup is an American reality television series airing on CNBC since July 8, 2014. The series is currently in its third season, which premiered on January 5, 2016. The series is executive produced by Eden Gaha, James Bruce, Paul Franklin, Robin Feinberg and Joe Bastianich, produced by Shine America and JB Crushed, LLC and presented by celebrity restaurateurs Joe Bastianich and Tim Love.

Two potential restaurant teams, picked from a large pool of applicants, pitch their restaurant concept to the hosts. The prospective team chosen out of the two has a short period of time – 36 hours – and $7500 to elaborate on their idea, refine the menu, draw up a business plan, put some more work into the design concept, etc. Then their pop-up restaurant opens up, and Love and Bastianich make a final decision on whether or not they want to invest in the startup.

Current season and renewal prospects

Love and Bastianich have made a point about the series, stating that it is not just a cooking competition, and is far more real than other reality series of similar type. They claim that these are in fact very real business opportunities, and that they make their judgements in the same way as they would have in the absence of the cameras. Culinary consultant Antonia Lofaso joined in for the current season to advise. Restaurant Startup is a strong performer for CNBC and seems to have every possible chance of renewal.
