Show info and storyline

Cuckoo is a British sitcom series broadcast on BBC Three since 2012, and repeating on BBC One. The series is written and created by Robin French and Kieron Quirke, exec produced by Ash Atalla and Dan Hine, and produced by Roughout Television. The current third series premiered on February 16, 2016.

The storyline follows the relationship between a more or less regular middle-class British girl Rachel Thompson (Esther Smith) and an eccentric American stoner Dale “Cuckoo” Ashbrick (Andy Samberg). The life of the Thompson family will never be the same again after Rachel brings Dale home to meet her straight-laced parents Ken (Greg Davies) and Lorna (Helen Baxendale). Their relationship goes on strange trips, not just the regular ups and downs, ending in an eccentric incident when Cuckoo gets lost in the Himalayas. The trick was to get the title character out of the picture, since Andy Samberg was no longer available to star in the show after series one. Dale Jr. (Taylor Lautner) was introduced into the story as Dale`s long-lost son. Very rarely would a move like this work, but in this case it did, according to mostly positive viewer reviews.

Ratings, award nominations and chances of renewal

The series was a success in its first run, with almost 1.3 million tuning in to watch the series premiere and an average of over 800,000 for the freshman series. The current series has an audience that is ten times smaller, just over 80,000 viewers. Such a sharp decline in ratings must largely be attributed to BBC Three`s recent move online more than anything else. Greg Davies has been nominated for a BAFTA and Best TV Comedy Actor at the British Comedy Awards, and the series as a whole received a nomination for Best New Comedy Programme. The future of the series is unclear at this point, so please stay with us for further information.
