Series info, concept and criticism

The Jump is a British reality series that portrays celebrities attempting to master a variety of winter sports – skeleton, bobsleigh, giant slalom, speed skating and ski cross. The series is produced by Twofour and GroupM, executive produced by Melanie Leach, Andrew Mackenzie, Rachel Watson, Tony Moulsdale and Abigail Adams. It is filmed in Austria, presented by Davina McCall and narrated by Barry Davies. The third series of the program has premiered on Channel 4 on January 31, 2016 and airs weekly instead of following its habitual nightly schedule.

The events are pre-recorded in various locations in Austria and the cast members don`t know their times until the completion of the events. The celebrities are supposed to be learning the ropes and competing in different winter sports. The two with the slowest times have to make a live ski jump in the end of each episode. The ski jump has been criticized as unimpressive, the celebrities – as pretty far from being real celebrities, and the spectacle as a whole, therefore, as less than exciting.

Reviews, viewership and chances of renewal

The series averaged just above 2.1 million viewers per episode for the first two episodes, with mostly negative reviews from both critics and viewers. The Jump has been criticized very harshly as the apogee of senseless reality TV, a “scary mash-up of Big Brother and Ski Sunday”. The first two weeks of the third series is already marked by three serious injuries of the cast members. The fate of the series is not clear at this point, so let us wait for networks announcements and we`ll fill you in as soon as information becomes available.
