Series background and info
A Nickelodeon live-action musical sitcom series School of Rock premiered on March 12, 2016. The brand new series contains 12 episodes, is produced by Armogida Brothers Productions and Passable Entertainment, and is written and executive produced by Jim and Steve Armogida alongside Scott Rudin.
The series is an adaptation of the 2003 School of Rock movie. It features a mixed bunch of overachieving students at a prestigious prep school and their substitute teacher who is concurrently an out-of-luck musician. At first the proper and rule-abiding students don`t think much of their new teacher, but eventually begin to express their inner feelings more and more openly and form a clandestine rock band together with him. The cast includes Breanna Yde (Tomika), Jade Pettyjohn (Summer), Ricardo Hurtado (Freddy), Lance Lim (Zack), Aidan Miner (Lawrence) and Tony Cavalero (Mr. Finn).
Viewership, current season and chances of renewal
The series premiered to 2.37 million viewers, sloping significantly to 1.68 million viewers by the second episode. The reviews are mixed, noting the primitive storyline, infantile characters that are difficult to relate to and casting that`s far from perfect. There is, however, a sweetness to the series` atmosphere, and fun performances by the newly formed band. Unfortunately, the 4.9/10 on IMDb says a lot about the general public`s opinion of the show. There has been no network announcements regarding the renewal or cancelation of the series, but a renewal does not seem particularly feasible. UPDATED April 7, 2016: Less than a month into the series` freshman season, Nickelodeon has renewed its live-action musical sitcom School of Rock for a second chapter, to contain 13 episodes. The series currently boasts a solid audience of almost 2 million viewers per week. The second season will continue to blend many musical numbers into the comedy fabric and entertain its tween audience.
