Unforgotten is a new United Kingdom ITV network criminal and investigative drama show, written by Chris Lang and produced by Mainstreet Pictures. The first season has premiered on October 8, 2015.
The plot pivots around a discovery of a young man`s bones that have been buried under a basement of a demolished Victorian home for 39 years. This discovery sparks a police investigation, conducted by DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) and DS Sunil `Sunny` Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar), while the lives of four people who have been waiting for it begin to come undone. A diary full of clues, car keys from long ago, a possible racial motive, torture marks – the coil of threads is slowly untangled to reveal the culprit.
Among the Unforgotten`s strong points critics mention an outstanding original script with ingenuous twists and turns, an excellent star and supporting cast. There has, on the other side, also been criticism of the not-always-believable dialogue and a disappointing ending. However, the viewership on the debut night in prime time was in impressive 4,5 million people on ITV. Following the success of the first season, the second one has already been commissioned by ITV and is set to broadcast in late 2016. Even though the exact release date is still unclear, the series` many fans are happy to know that there`s the next season to look forward to. There are many more mysteries to be solved by this pair of detectives after their apparent success with this complicated historical case.
Updated November 25, 2015: Unforgotten, an ITV police drama revolving around a cold murder case is officially coming back for a second series after the success that the debut series enjoyed. The series` writer and creator Chris Lang is coming back for the second series and has promised to deliver a brand new story that will gradually uncover another set of long forgotten criminal secrets. There`s no date set yet either for casting and filming, or for the next series` network release, but of course, the star pair – Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar – will remain in the spotlight for the second series.
