About the series

Cradle to Grave s a British television comedy series based on the life of the well-known broadcaster Danny Baker in the 1970’s in south-east London. Produced by Danny Baker and Jeff Pope for BBC Two, the series premiered on September 3, 2015.

Based on Danny Baker’s autobiography, Cradle To Grave is set in the ‘70’s and follows the events of 15 year-old Danny and his family. The eight-part series is based on Baker’s memoir going to Sea in a Sieve. With sitcom memoirs being officially the ‘it’ thing on TV, this series goes a step further and is filmed like a blast from the past – when sitcoms were about quarreling families, lack of sexual opportunities for teens like Danny, furniture wrapped in plastic and rented TV sets.

The regular cast includes Peter Kay as Danny’s father, Fred ‘Spud’ Baker, Lucy Speed as long-suffering wife Bet Baker, Laurie Kynaston as a young Danny and Alice Sykes and Frankie Wilson as Danny’s siblings. The show is witty and hilarious in its depiction of the ups and downs of the Baker family.

The creator was so sure that the show will be a success that he began writing the second season before the series aired. At the same time, BBC comedy boss Shane Allen jokes that he will quit his job if the show is not a hit. Thus, if season 2 of Cradle and Grave does get picked up, it will likely be released sometime in the summer of 2016.
