Series information and plot

A new American TV sitcom, Superstore has broadcast its two pilot episodes on November 30, 2015 on NBC, as the third episode became available on nbc.com on the same date. The remaining series will begin airing in their usual time slot on January 4, 2016. Superstore was created and executive produced by Justin Spritzer, and produced by Spritzer Holding Company, The District and Universal Television.

Superstore is a workplace comedy set in Cloud 9, a fictional giant superstore. The employees include a pregnant woman, a paraplegic, veterans and newbies, a Latina and a gay Asian, eccentrics and familiar types. The plot in itself is nothing particularly new – the workplace rivalries, the goofing off taking place in the store, romantic involvements, the personal lives of the employees, but the genuine humor and the believable characters make it into something more than you might think.

Critical reception and possibility of renewal

The series is recognized by the critics as one with an obvious potential and a talented cast, America Ferrera being particularly praised. It has also been criticized for the plot being somewhat incoherent in the first episodes, with just too much going on. However, the current reviews on review aggregator websites are uneven – from mixed to average to mostly positive. When the season kicks off full strength, the audience will have a better chance to form a more well-rounded opinion of this goofy comedy. Meanwhile, NBC cut the season order of Superstore from 13 episodes to 11, presumably on budget grounds. It`s clear that if the series were extremely successful, the network would find another place to cut costs. Anyway, we still have to see where this whole complicated season launch takes the series.

UPDATED February 24, 2016: Superstore is renewed for a second season, NBC President Jennifer Salke announced on February 23, 2016. The funny and relatable comedy is delivering excellent ratings, with an impressive 2.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.9 million total viewers in L+7. America Ferrera, Ben Feldman and the rest of the main cast is expected to return for the second season. The release date for Superstore`s sophomore run has not been set yet, so please stay tuned and we will inform you as soon as it is released.

UPDATED June 16, 2016: NBC`s popular workplace comedy series Superstore is rolling back in the fall of 2016! The sitcom`s sophomore chapter will premiere on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 8pm, as Cloud 9 supermarket once again opens its doors and reveals the inner workings of the business and personal interactions of its wacky employees. The second chapter will contain 11 episodes, down from the 13-episode order of the first installment.
