Summary and storyline

Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse is an American dramedy series that follows the zany and sometimes tumultuous relationship of Marcus and Angela Williams as they deal with the challenges of married life. Written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry, the series first debuted on April 26, 2011 on TBS, but has been airing on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) since the third season. The current ninth season kicked off on September 30, 2016.

Based on Perry’s 2007 film Why Did I get Married? and its sequel Why Did I Get Married Too?, the hilarious series revolves around a lovesick married couple, their extended family and friends. Marcus “MJ” Williams Jr. is a football player turned sports commentator. His wife Angela is the edgy and outspoken owner of a hair salon and hair care products. The sitcom has generated mixed reviews during its six season run. Despite a solid opening season, which drew a whopping 3.33 million viewers, the show has steadily dipped in ratings since, but still enjoys popularity with the audience.

Season 8 premiered to 724,000 viewers, and the current ninth installment debuted with two back-to-back premiere episodes, drawing 690,000 live viewers. The review aggregator websites have not been particularly kind to the series, with Rotten Tomatoes rating it at 50% and IMDb granting it a 4.2/10 score, while viewers are mostly satisfied, but not amazed by this project.
