Basic info and cast

Red Oaks is a new American comedy TV series that tells the story of a young tennis player who works at an exclusive country club during the summer between his sophomore and junior years of college. Written and created by Joe Gangemi and Gregory Jacobs, the show is executive produced by the Academy Award winning director Steven Soderberg and David Gordon Green. It was initially released on the Amazon streaming platform in October 2015, and the second season followed on November 11, 2016.

A classic coming of age story, Red Oaks is set in an upscale suburban country club in New Jersey during the 1980s. Joining the growing slate of Amazon’s original programs, the series centers on David Myers (Craig Roberts), a college student who is at a crossroads in his young adult life. Conflicted about his major, confused about his relationship with his high school sweetheart, and unsure of how to process his parents’ recent confession about the lack of love in their marriage, David tries to find himself while holding down a summer job. Instead, he discovers himself as the recipient of unsolicited life advice from a colorful groups of coworkers and wealthy club members.

Current season and renewal prospects

The series is set in the 1980s, and the second installment picks up in 1986, right where the first one left off. The second season shifts its focus onto the ensemble cast, instead of centering only on David and his plans for the future. There are no body swaps, but this time the setting expands to include trips to New York City, Atlantic City and Paris. The season two premiere episode featured a retro-style road trip, resolution of season 1 cliffhangers, and further development of the deepening relationships.

With generally positive reviews and solid ratings of 79% on RottenTomatoes, 7.8/10 on IMDb and 70% on Metacritic, the show is part of the online streaming site`s efforts to snatch a larger portion of the market share away from competitors like Netflix and Hulu. However, it’s still too early to tell whether Amazon will bring Red Oaks back for season 3, so please stay tuned for further info.
