Doctor Foster is a new British TV drama series about a doctor determined to find out the truth about her husband’s alleged affair. Written by Mike Bartlett, an acclaimed British playwright, the series is produced by Drama Republic and debuted on BBC One on September 9, 2015.

Filmed in various parts of Britain, including London and Hitchin, the story follows Doctor Gemma Foster (played by Suranne Jones) who suspects her husband of having an affair and stops at nothing to find out the truth. Also staring Bertie Carvel, Robert Pugh, Adam James and Jodie Comer, the drama series has received critical acclaim.

The opening episode of series 1 drew in 9.2 million viewers and glowing reviews from the press. Michael Hogan of “The Telegraph” gave it four stars out of five and described it as “an edgy nail biter”, while “The Guardian” called it a “gripping portrait of a marriage slowly being poisoned”. Despite some critics calling the series’ soundtrack a bit too melodramatic, viewer ratings have also been promising, with episode five garnering 10.1 million, the biggest audience yet.

So will BBC One commission another round and renew Doctor Foster for series 2? Chances are good that the network will announce the show’s comeback after the season finale. If so, fans can anticipate a release sometime in 2016.
