About the show

NCIS is an American police drama TV series that follows a team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Created by Donald Bellsario and Don McGill, the series hails from Belisarius Productions and CBS Television Studios. The series has been on the air since 2003, and is currently the second longest-running primetime scripted series in the United States outside of animated shows. Season 14 debuted on September 20, 2016.

Based in Washington D.C., the Major Case Response Team at NCIS conducts criminal investigations that involve the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. It is the primary law enforcement unit of the U.S. Department of the Navy and, thus, investigates all major criminal offenses that are punishable under the Uniform Code of the Military Justice. Bomb situations, terrorist threats, kidnappings and murders of the military personnel – anything serious that happens within the Navy or Marine Corps is up to the MCRT, led by Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, to solve. As usual, there is a lot of action and suspense involved in each episode, which is something that has kept the viewers glued to their television sets during NCIS seasons for years.

Viewership ratings and renewal

Season 13 managed to maintain an impressive average of 16.6 million viewers, just a slight 3% drop when compared to the previous chapter. The current 14th season debuted to 15.99 million viewers, and slid to 14.44 million by episode three. With such stable and high viewership, the show has truly become the staple of the scripted programming on CBS. The season 13 finale bid farewell to one of the original cast members, Michael Weatherly who has been on the show since its inception and has portrayed Special Agent Tony DiNozzo in 305(!) episodes. Meanwhile, a new regular character – MI6 Officer Clayton Reeves is introduced in season 14, and Patrick Labyorteaux guest stars as Bud Roberts, Navy JAG Captain. In February 2016 NCIS has been renewed for seasons 14 & 15, which is hardly a surprise considering that it has been voted America’s favorite television series several years in a row. Stay tuned, and we will inform you when further details become available.
