Storyline and cast

Last Man Standing is an American sitcom created by Jack Burditt and executive produced by and starring Tim Allen. 21 Laps-Adelstein Producions and Lyonsberry Productions are behind the show, with Becky Clementis, Marty Adelstein, Richard Baker, Rick Messina and John Pasquin also on the executive producers’ team. The series debuted on ABC on October 11, 2011, and is currently airing its sixth season, which premiered on September 23, 2016.

In his second sitcom for ABC Tim Allen portrays Mike Baxter, a senior executive and director of marketing for a chain of outdoor stores in Colorado. He is literally the last man standing in a household full of women, including his wife, three daughters and a granddaughter. Last Man Standing also stars Nancy Travis as Vanessa Baxter, Mike’s wife who works as a geologist in the energy industry.

Reception and renewal prospects

In its most recent completed cycle, the sitcom has averaged 6.7 million viewers per episode, and the current installment premiered to 5.95 million viewers, which is lower than the previous season’s viewership, but still rock solid. Scores of 7.4/10 on IMDb and 79% on Rotten Tomatoes indicate positive reception and strong potential. Among the most recent of the awards and nominations the show’s garnered is the 2015 ASCAP Film and Television Music Award for Top Television Series. While the facts are clearly indicating a very likely renewal, however, as with any major broadcast scripted series, Last Man Standing season 7 is not a guarantee. There are still many episodes to be aired in the current season, and ABC will likely wait to see how the show performs before making any announcements.
