About the series
Alaska: The Last Frontier is an American reality survival docu-series that follows an extended family living in a homestead deep in the Alaskan wilderness. It is narrated by Bray Poor, executive produced by Daniel Soiseth, Grant Kahler, Cameo Wallace and Philip Day and produced by Discovery Communications. The critically acclaimed series debuted on the Discovery Channel in December 2011. Season 6 debuted on October 16, 2016.
The Kilcher family lives 11 miles outside of Homer, Alaska in a homestead without modern plumbing or heating. For three generations, the family has proudly lived off the 640 acre homestead that Yule Kilcher settled after arriving Alaska in search of a free and simpler life. Jewel Kilcher, an award-winning country singer and a Homer, AK native will be featured in the current sixth season of Alaska: The Last Frontier as she returns to her homestead after being away for seven years. She joins her family members and shows her young son the place where she grew up. Just before her return the Kilcher family is faced with consequences of a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, which means a road collapse and landslides to begin with. The show features them recovering from the natural disaster and continuing to maintain the simple lifestyle that they chose for themselves.
Excellent reception and likely renewal
With raving reviews from critics and fans, the Alaska: The Last Frontier has been nominated for two Emmy awards, and its current season has premiered to 3.087 million viewers and a 0.58 demo rating, and is obviously not losing any grounds ratings-wise. So will fans get to see Alaska: The Last Frontier season 7? It’s still too early to tell, but since ratings are typically the real proof of popularity, the chances are very strong. Discovery Channel has made no formal announcements regarding a possible renewal yet, so please stay tuned.
