Basic info and plot

Based on the DC Comics character Barry Allen, The Flash is an American superhero action television series that follows the life of a crime scene investigator with the power to move at superhuman speeds. The series hails from Bonanza Productions, Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment. Starring Grant Gustin, the 23-episode third season of the series premiered on The CW on October 4, 2016.

After Barry Allen (Gustin) was struck by a lightning following an advanced particle accelerator malfunction and spent nine months in a coma, he awakes to discover that he can move at supernatural speed. As a crime scene investigator for the Central City Police Department, he vows to use his ability to keep his city safe and protect it from criminals who have also gained superhuman abilities during the thunderstorm caused by the accelerator malfunction. But criminals from our planet aren’t the only ones Barry has to worry about. Villains from parallel universes and supernatural forces constantly distract Barry from his work as an investigator.

In season 2, after Barry defeated his arch-nemesis Reverse Flash, a singularity that consumes everything in its path is found swirling above Central City and Flash is the only one who can save everyone from the imminent catastrophe by diving into the center of the singularity, or will his powers not be enough? Season 3 features a new “Flashpoint” timeline created inadvertently by Barry, where new threats are imminent and a powerful adversary named Alchemy wants to destroy Flash.

Viewership and renewal potential

There has been a slow and expected decline in the series`s viewership since the beginning of its broadcast. The first season averaged 4.62 million viewers, season 2 delivered 4.25 million, and the current chapter debuted with an audience of 3.17 million viewers. The Flash boasts a great 8.2/10 rating on the IMDb website, yet numerous viewers are critical of many of the show`s aspects, such as unimpressive writing, convoluted plot, inconsistency and bad acting, although the hardcore DC fans still find enough charm in the show. At this moment, there has not been any official news on the fate of the series. However, superhero shows have always been popular and The Flash is not an exception. Considering the never-ending pool of possible problems for Barry Allen to solve, we believe that The Flash Season 4 will be commissioned.

Latest news

UPDATED December 7, 2016: Beginning on December 6, 2016 The Flash has gone on a holiday hiatus after airing the first nine episodes of its third season. The midseason finale of The CW`s superhero action series drew 3.1 million viewers and scored a 1.2 demo rating, which means that the series is staying afloat, but is not about to impress anyone with incredible ratings. We are left wondering whether the future will be as tragic as it was suggested in the last episode before the break, where Barry saw Iris killed when he was thrown five months into the future. Even though Jay suggests to Barry that it is not written in stone, the feeling of doom that the viewers are left with remains strong. We have only until January 24, 2017, when the remaining 14 episodes of the third season will begin airing, to wonder about what the future actually holds for the characters, and the mid-season return can not come soon enough.
