Ratings and renewal prospects
AHS has been the most-watched series ever broadcast by FX. Breaking the boundaries of what`s considered normal for cable TV, it is almost addictive – the audience may be horrified and disgusted, but mesmerized nonetheless. The show has won a multitude of awards and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy 18 times, winning four of these nominations. Among the most recent accolades is a Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film Award received by Lady Gaga at the 2016 Golden Globes. The show has a very solid 8.2/10 IMDb rating and a respectable 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes. American Horror Story has averaged between 2.5 and 4 million viewers per episode in the five-season run, with a peak during season 3. Season 5 debuted with predictably impressive ratings of 5.14 million fans tuning in. There are hardly any doubts that there will be a seventh season of American Horror Story in the future.
Season 6 recap
The ten-episode sixth season of FX`s hit American Horror Story, titled Roanoke, went out with a bang on November 16, 2016. The viewership was very similar to that of the previous season, premiering with sky-high 5.14 million viewers, and quickly deteriorating to reach 2.45 million for the finale, which, by the way, is still top-notch numbers for a cable network. Only one person, Lee`s daughter Flora survives the final nightmarish episode after Lee sacrifices her life to that end after their emotional reunion. The season finale is the end of the story, since this is an anthology format, and while everyone agrees that the season was an entertaining and terrifying ride as a whole, many fans view Roanoke as one of the weaker installments of American Horror Story in terms of its extremely convoluted structure, although critics do praise its subdued pacing and aesthetics. In any case, the seventh season has already been commissioned, and we hope that the creative team takes the criticism into account and comes up with another brilliant season. Stay tuned for the next season`s spoilers and release date.
