About the show
The Affair in an award-winning American drama TV series that explores the emotional effects of an extramarital affair. Created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi, season 1 of the series premiered on Showtime on October 12, 2014, and the ten-episode third season was launched on November 20, 2016.
The Affair follows Noah Solloway (Dominic West) is a New York City schoolteacher who is happily married with four children, but is struggling with resentment toward his wealthy father-in-law. Alison Bailey (Ruth Wilson) is a young waitress trying to piece her marriage back together after the loss of a child. They meet together at a resort town of Montauk on Long Island and have an affair that leads to two completely distinct sets of memories. The story is told from each of their perspectives.
Awards, viewership and renewal prospects
In the second season the storyline is expanded to include the perspectives of Noah’s and Alison’s former spouses, Helen (Maura Tierney) and Cole (Joshua Jackson) in the aftermath of two destroyed marriages. Season three introduces the point of view of Juiliette La Gall (Irene Jacob), Noah`s new romantic interest. Praised by critics, the show has already won three Golden Globe Awards, and became very popular with Showtime`s audience. The first season averaged just under one million viewers per episode, which is reasonable viewership for Showtime, and season 3 is currently hovering about the 0.6 million mark. Given the critical acclaim, perhaps The Affair season 4 is not too far behind. Showtime has made no announcements regarding a possible renewal, so please stay tuned for more information.
