About the series

Yonderland is British sitcom TV series that follows a housewife who discovers a secret portal to another realm in her kitchen cupboard. Written and created by Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, series 1 of the series premiered on Sky1 in November 2013, and the third series debuted on October 16, 2016. The show`s produced by Working Title Films and executive produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Juliette Howell, Lucy Lumsden and Saskia Schuster.

Debbie Maddox (Martha Howe-Douglas) is a 33-year-old mom who has become increasingly bored with her suburban lifestyle. One day, she discovers an elf (voiced by Mathew Baynton) who appears from a secret portal in her kitchen cupboard and insists that she is the “Chosen One” and destined to save a magical place called Yonderland from the evil Negates (Simon Farnaby). Debbie is reluctant but agrees to meet the Elders of the magic realm, but discovers that no one actually knows what the “Chosen One” is supposed to do. Despite the set-backs, Debbie explores Yonderland and completes various quests before returning to her normal life and children. The evil Imperatrix was killed and is no longer a part of the story in season three, and Negatus has no one to balance out his power and can potentially seize full control of Yonderland.

Ratings dynamics and chances of renewal

Viewership ratings have declined through in the second series, with the season finale attracting under 0.29 million viewers, and in order to invigorate Yonderland, the series` creators brought Stephen Fry into the picture as a kind and eccentric character named Cuddly Dick. There was hope that this amazing and renowned actor would enliven the action and the viewership. Still, the third series demonstrates no signs of a revival, premiering to merely 0.3 million viewers. It is not clear whether Sky1 is going to invest in another series of Yonderland, so please stay tuned and we`ll be sure to keep you informed of the fantasy sitcom`s future.
