Production info and premise

Produced by Joseph Boyle, Mark Kadin and Will Ehbrecht for the Discovery Channel, Treasure Quest: Snake Island is an American reality TV series that follows a crew of divers and explorers on a quest to find lost Incan gold on an island off the coast of Brazil. Season 1 of Treasure Quest: Snake Island premiered in the US on Discovery on July 18, 2015 and in Australia on Discovery Channel Australia on September 1, 2015. Season 2 followed on the US Discovery network on November 4, 2016.

In this series, a team of treasure hunters led by Cork Graham attempt to find the Treasure of the Trinity, which was lost in 1524, on an island that is infested with golden lancehead pit vipers. These snakes are considered to be some of the most dangerous in the world and account for 90% of snakebite-related deaths in Brazil. Cork Graham and his crew attempt to survive on Snake Island, while looking for gold that may not have ever been there, or may have already been found by someone else.

Popularity and prospects of renewal

In the second season of Treasure Quest: Snake Island real-life treasure hunters actually leave Snake Island and take on the dangerous Peruvian jungle in search of the Treasure of the Trinity, which hails from the Incas, according to the legend. The intense new season feature the adventurous crew led by Jeremy Whalen pushed to their limits deep in the rugged jungle. There has not been any official news from the network on the fate of the show. Although treasure hunt series are usually quite popular, Snake Island has not been rated highly by viewers, earning merely 6/10 on IMDb. The viewership, on the other hand, is very strong, and ultimately that is what matters. The first season maintained an average above 1.5 million, while season two premiered to 1.3 million viewers and edged up in the subsequent weeks. Since the gold has not been found yet, and only a small trace of it was discovered so far, it is very likely that we will see Treasure Quest: Snake Island Season 3 some time in the future.
