Summary and storyline

You’re the Worst is an American comedy series that follows a self-involved writer and self-destructive PR executive in their attempt at having a relationship. The series first premiered on July 17, 2014 on the FX Network, and was later renewed for season 2 to be broadcast on sister channel, FXX.

In You’re the Worst, Jimmy (played by Chris Geere) is a selfish and insensitive writer living in Los Angeles- Gretchen (played by Aya Cash) is an LA-based PR executive who is cynical and prone to self-destructive tendencies. After a haphazard meeting at a friend’s wedding, the pair continue to hook up for the next few weeks, and despite having a no-strings-attached attitude they find themselves getting dangerously close. During season 1, audiences followed the couple’s misadventures in life, love and romance.

Season 2, which premiered on September 9, 2015, Jimmy and Gretchen’s relationship is put to the test when they decide to move in together. While the move does not guarantee their long-lasting happiness or any proof that they will never break up, it does provide the characters with a level of stability as they explore their own definition of love. Afraid of turning into dull adults with boring lives, the couple entangle themselves in their own drama to avoid the real issues.
