Storyline and cast

Starring Jonas Nay, Deutschland 83 is a German drama television series that is set in East Germany during the peak period of the Cold War. The series is written by Anna Winger, directed by Edward Berger and Samira Radsi and is internationally distributed by RTL Group’s FremantleMedia International. In the U.S. Deutschland 83 Season 1 premiered on SundanceTV on June 17, 2015.

1983 is the year that the tensions between East and West Germany were at their greatest. Martin Rauch (Jonas Nay) is a 24-year-old soldier from East Germany who is sent to the West as an undercover spy for the Secret Service. He is recruited to work as a government assistant for a high West Germany official, with a mission to gather intelligence on the plans of the United States regarding defense from Soviet aggression. This gripping series shows the life of a young man, who must deal with being pulled from his familiar surroundings and has to find ways to ‘save’ his people from the NATO aggression.

Current season and renewal expectations

This series is full of personal torment, culture and ideology wars and the political events of the early ‘80’s. It has received excellent reviews from the critics and audience as a gripping drama with an intense spy story. Although there hasn’t been any official news from the producers, we are sure that there will be a continuation and we will see young Martin Rauch again in Deutschland 83 Season 2.
