Summary and storyline
Orange Is the New Black (also known as OITNB) is a Golden Globe Award-nominated and widely critically-acclaimed American comedy-drama television series that is available exclusively on the online streaming service Netflix. The internationally popular show is co-produced by Lionsgate Television and Tilted Productions, and executive produced by Jenji Kohan, Mark A. Burley, Sara Hess, Lisa Vinnecour and Michael Trim. Season 1 of Orange is the New Black came out on Netflix on July 11, 2013.
Orange is the New Black was created by Jenji Kohan based on 2010 memoir “Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women`s Prison” by Piper Kerman, which recounts the story of her money laundering and drug trafficking conviction and a year spent in a women`s prison. Since the dramedy series debuted in 2013 it has captured the attention and the minds of the audiences around the world. To date, the show has garnered 94 award nominations and has won a total of 43 various awards. The reviews have been nothing but positive, praising the dialogue, the humor and the characters.
Latest installment and multi-season renewal
All 13 episodes of Season 4 of Orange is the New Black was made available to Netflix members around the globe on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 12:01am PST. A whole four months before the release of the fourth installment, back in February, Netflix officially announced the renewal of their hit dramedy series for seasons 5, 6 and 7, taking the award-winning show through at least 2019. Such bold decision actually seems quite reasonable, considering the fact that OITNB is the most-watched original series for the company and in recent years has garnered all kinds of accolades as well. The show now boasts 43 award wins and almost 100 nominations. Its most recent chapter was the darkest and most dramatic yet, so it looks like there is no stopping the creative team.
