TNT officially canceled Rizzoli & Isles Season 8

This article has the most up-to-date info on the status of Rizzoli & Isles Season 8 as we continuously monitor the news to keep you in the know. Unfortunately, TNT has officially canceled the series. There will be no Season 8.

Summary and storyline

Starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, Rizzoli & Isles is an American police procedural drama television series that follows the work of a police detective and a medical examiner in Boston, Massachusetts. Based on the novels of the same name, written by Tess Gerritsen, this series first aired in July of 2010. Rizzoli & Isles have returned for the seventh and final season on June 6, 2016. The final chapter is set to contain 13 episodes.

Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) is a police detective at the Boston Police Department and Dr. Maura Isles (Alexander) is a medical examiner, who helps Rizzoli solve crimes and doubles as her best friend. As the only female cop at the Boston PD’s homicide division, Rizzoli is tough and ferocious. Isles, on the other hand, is feminine but very cold, as she feels more comfortable working with the dead, than the living. Although the two have strikingly different personalities, their partnership is very effective in catching some of Boston’s most dangerous criminals.

Ratings and cancelation

The seventh season is likely to continue the series` successful run – since its launch in 2010 Rizzoli & Isles has consistently been among the top 5 cable series in total viewership, as well as among the top 10 in the 25-54 demo. The sixth season of Rizzoli and Isles averaged about 11.5 million viewers per episode across all platforms. The seventh season is doing just as well, but apparently TNT wants to change the vector of its development and is steadily getting rid of its older shows, even ones as successful as Rizzoli and Isles.
