About the series

Married at First Sight is an Australian reality TV series that features couples that were matched by relationship experts and agreed to get married when they first meet at the altar. Based on a Danish program of the same name, this series differs in the sense that the couples do not legally get married, but rather hold a commitment ceremony. Attracting 1.2 million viewers, Married at First Sight premiered in Australia on Nine Network in 2015, and the third series was launched on August 29, 2016.

In this series, eight people that have never met before are paired by experts to share a life together. The first two episodes introduce two couples each and show them commit to each other. In the fourth episode all of the participants of the program meet and discuss their experience, and in the following episodes the viewer becomes witness to what it’s like to live with the person that someone else believes is the perfect match for you. The experts include a psychologist, sexologist, sociologist and a spiritualist. After several weeks of sharing a life together, the participants must decide if they want to remain in the relationship or not.

Current season, ratings and renewal chances

This series has been extremely popular all over the world and is also produced in the U.S., as well as other countries. With an average score of 5.7/10 and current averages of approximately 0.87 million viewers per episode, the show offers real relationship comedy and drama. It has very recently been revealed that none of the couples featured are still together, so there are questions raised about the point of the program. Thus, it is not surprising that Nine Network has already announced that it is renewing the series for an extended fourth series featuring 10 couples, and we will definitely see Married at First Sight season 4 in February 2017.
