Production info and plot
Josh is a new British sitcom created by, written and starring comedian Josh Widdicombe, co-written by Tom Craine. Executive produced by Stephen McCrumb and produced by BBC, the six-part series debuted on BBC Three in November 2015, with a pilot episode released in 2014 as part of BBC “Comedy Feeds”. Series two premiered on September 22, 2016.
The setup is not particularly remarkable, to say the least – it`s three friends sharing a flat – Josh (Josh Widdiecombe), Owen (Elis James) and Kate (Beattie Edmondson). Most of the series is dedicated to the dynamics among them and their relationship with their weird landlord Geoff (Jack Dee), as well as their romantic and social misfortunes characteristic of the genre. There are more exotic settings – such as a pool party, but mostly it`s a familiar apartment backdrop. The series two premiere featured Josh on a double date with Owen and a couple of vixens, so the situational comedy continues,
Reception and renewal prospects
The critical reception of Josh was average, some reviewers cited the nice chemistry between the co-stars, praising Edmondson`s performance in particular. Others bashed the blandness of the script and pointed out that the characters are supposed to be very noticeably younger than the actors playing them. On December 16, 2015 BBC Three confirmed their commission of Josh for a six-part second season, which returned after BBC Three went fully digital, and is now in the midst of its broadcast. While BBC Three ratings are not currently available to the public, we can judge by the review aggregator scores, and they are mostly positive, with 51% on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.1/10 on IMDb. It seems that a renewal is possible, but not guaranteed, so please stay tuned, and we will let you know when a decision is made on the future of Josh.

UPDATED November 5, 2016: The third series of the critically acclaimed comedy series Josh has been commissioned immediately prior to the series 2 finale, on the heels of a successful installment. The next chapter will welcome back its whole ensemble cast when it returns in 2017 with six new half-hour episodes.
