Series info and concept

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is a US comedy web series distributed online by the digital network Crackle since July 19, 2012. It is created, hosted, executive produced and directed by famous comedian Jerry Seinfeld, and is currently in its eighth season, which is broadcast since June 15, 2016.

The show`s title is self-explanatory – from episode to episode, Jerry and a guest comedian take a vintage car selected by Jerry especially for the guest, and drive to a restaurant for coffee. The comedic dialogue on the way is the main point of the show, and the elements of indulgent celebrity lifestyle and reality series add to viewer interest. There are also frequent departures from the format, as unexpected events of various magnitude occur on the way. There seems to be nothing amazingly original about the idea – it is basically a one-on-one talk show, but the dynamic element added by driving works really well.

Reviews and renewal

As of May 2015, the show has been streamed approximately 100 million times, and following the sixth season, the series was picked up for three more seasons at once, up to and including a ninth season. The episodes last anywhere from 12 to 20 minutes and while some critics complain that they feel stretched for the short-concept format, most viewers seem to agree on a very positive appraisal of the series as classy, funny and entertaining. Among the eighth season guests Jerry Seinfeld will welcome comics Margaret Cho and Jim Gaffigan, actor JB Smoove, writer and producer Judd Apatow, SNL creator Lorne Michaels, TV host John Oliver and others. Eavesdropping on modern US comedy giants` smalltalk has never been this stylish and fun. The solid 8.3/10 IMDb rating is additional proof of its quality, if proof is needed.
