About the show
Hell`s Kitchen is a cooking competition reality TV series created and presented by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. The series follows the format of its eponymous British original. Hell`s Kitchen has been on the air since 2005 and is now in its 16th season which premiered on HBO on September 23, 2016. ITV Studios America and A. Smith & Co. Productions are the companies behind the production.
The series is set in an elimination format, with the chefs competing in two teams for the first part of the season, and when all but five or six are eliminated, the individual competition begins. The winner receives two truly life-changing prizes – US $250,000 cash and the exciting opportunity to work at one of Ramsay`s restaurants as head chef or executive chef. Eighteen chefs are competing in the current sixteenth season.
Ratings and renewal
Cooking competition series have a steady audience, and Hell`s Kitchen is no exception, with its long history, established reputation and the charismatic celebrity host. Season 16 opened to an audience of 3.37 million viewers, and remains steady above the 3 million viewers mark for the subsequent episodes. In early September 2016 the show was renewed for seasons 17 and 18. Gordon Ramsay`s passion and explosive personality are likely to ensure the series` further comebacks.
