Baskets is an American dark comedy television series created by Louis C.K., Zach Galifianakis & Jonathan Krisel which premiered on January 21, 2016. The show is produced by Pig Newton, Billios, 3 Arts Entertainment, Brillstein Entertainment, Partners and FX Productions. The pilot episode was commissioned by FX in January 2014, and the first season order was picked up in August 2014.
Baskets follows non-identical twins Chip and Dale Baskets, both played by Zach Galifianakis. Chip dreams of becoming a professional clown and attends an elite clown school in Paris, but financial issues and the impenetrable language barrier force him to drop out. Upon his return to the United States he is forced to face his past, deal with family issues and stick around at his hometown`s local rodeo.
Series premiere, ratings and chances of renewal
The premiere episode of Baskets launched to a 0.46 rating in the 18-40 demo and 1.04 million viewers, The second week saw a drop to 0.35 and 0.658 million, dropping even further to 0.625 million in the third week. The critical reviews have been mixed to favorable, noting strong performances and subtle humor in particular. The quirky series holds a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and 68 out of 100 on Metacritic. Updated February 24, 2016: Half-way through the first season FX has already renewed Baskets for a second season, to air in early 2017. The series became its 2016 highest-rated scripted comedy in both total viewers and the significant 18-49 demographic. Baskets has averaged 944,000 viewers per episode in adults 18-49 and 1.5 million total viewers in L+7. The renewal was announced by Eric Schrier and Nick Grad, presidents of original programming at FX Networks and FX Productions, who expressed their satisfaction with the series` performance and gratitude to the creative team.
