Series information and plot

Line of Duty is an acclaimed British police procedural TV series airing on BBC Two since 2012. It was created and written by Jed Mercurio, executive produced by Mercurio, Stephen Wright and Simon Heath and produced by World Productions. The current third series premiered on March 24, 2016.

The show follows DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) following his transfer to the anti-corruption unit following a botched shooting during a counter-terrorism operation which ended in a man`s death.

Awards, reception and renewal

The first series of Line of Duty turned out to be BBC Two`s top-rated drama series in 10 years, and the subsequent series of Line of Duty have all been critically acclaimed and well-received. “Critically acclaimed” might not even express the extent of the positive reception, as in 2014 the show was listed as one of the Top 50 BBC two shows of all time. Line of Duty has originally premiered to 3.76 million viewers, with the current season debuting to an impressive audience of 3.31million viewers. Over the course of its run the series has been nominated for a great number of awards and has won many, including Best Drama/Fictional Programme at Royal Television Society Midlands Awards, Best TV Drama at Freesat Awards, as well as several others. BBC Two has already renewed Line of Duty for a fourth series when it commissioned the current third chapter.

Interestingly, the police refused to cooperate with the producers of Line of Duty, and the crew was advised by retired police officers and anonymously by officers on active duty. This fact provides indirect evidence of the Line of Duty`s true relevance to some of the unfortunate realities portrayed.
