About the show

Funny or Die`s Billy on the Street is a US game show and comedy television series which has originally aired on Fuse for three seasons, having debuted in 2011, and was consequently moved to truTV, where the fourth season premiered in October 2016. Season five was launched on November 15, 2016. The series is created, produced and presented by Billy Eichner. Mike Farah, Anna Wenger, Billy Eichner, Krysia Plonka and Kathy Egan serve as executive producers, with co-executive effort from Doug Brady, Richard DiBella, Diane C. Reiley and Doug Brady.

The premise of the series is very simple – Bill goes out to NYC streets and poses questions regarding pop culture to random pedestrians. Various games, such as Quizzed in the Face, For a Dollar and Amateur Speed Sketching are part of the show format. The current fifth season features guest appearances by Keegan-Michael Hay, Lupita Nyong’o, Aziz Ansari, Jon Hamm, John Oliver, Seth Rogen and Andy Samberg.

Ratings and renewal potential

The last completed, fourth season of Billy on the Street has averaged 400,000 viewers per episode. The show has a 7.6/10 IMDb rating with viewer opinions polarized. Both the fans and the critics admit that Billy is rude and that he makes people awkward with his insane questions, but the difference is in their reactions that range from “pointless trash” to “fluid, unique and interesting”. The fact that Billy on the Street is clearly unscripted certainly adds charm to it. It is a love it or hate it show, and it apparently has enough admirers, having lasted for some time. The current fifth season premiered weakly, drawing just 0.25 million viewers to the small screens, bounced up to 0.33 million viewers in the following week, and fell back to 0.23 million in the third week. Who knows what may happen to the show in the future? Stay tuned and be among the first to find out!
