Series info and summary
Food Porn is a new American documentary television series that debuted on FYI on December 3, 2015. It is hosted by a New York restaurant owner Michael Chernow, produced by Loud TV and executive produced by Bethenny Franklin, Nick Grigg, David George, Gena MacCarthy and James Bolosh.
The series`s concept grows out of the recent trend of photographing and sharing pictures of the food on your plate on social media. A new #foodporn tag appears on Twitter every two seconds, and there are 50 million #foodporn posts on Instagram, so it`s clearly a subject with viewership potential. What is it that makes sharing pictures of food so insanely popular?
Reviews and chances of renewal
Fourteen 30-minute episodes go beyond the photos to explore the dishes behind the pictures, to analyze the phenomenon as a whole and to discover the reasons for the insane popularity of the genre. Michael Chernow travels around the country, visiting the most exciting cities for gourmet dining – New York, Austin, Las Vegas, Miami, and many others, meet chefs who create the sophisticated dishes that are also perfect eye candy. In spite of the seemingly winning combination of excellent food and exciting travels that are both parts of the series, Food Porn ratings aren`t very impressive so far, with 113 000 for the latest December episode, which might be due to the fact that the #food porn fans have already had a share of their fix online. Will this prove enough for the crazy #foodporn obsession to be explored for more than one season? We`ll just have to wait and see.
