Series info and storyline
A multiple award-winning Australian comedy and drama television series, Offspring has been broadcast on Ten Network since 2010. The series is created by Debra Oswald, John Edwards and Imogen Banks, executive produced by Rick Maier and Rory Callaghan and produced by Endemol Australia. The highly anticipated current sixth series of Offspring aired on June 29, 2016 following a 2-year hiatus.
The series follows Nina Proudman (Asher Keddie), an obstetrician in her 30s, and her family and friends, as they deal with the trials and tribulations of modern life – and we all know there are many. The show`s filming style is unconventional, with regular drama narrative mixed with flashbacks, fantasy sequences and animation. Romance, career, single motherhood, complicated core family issues – everything that is a part of life of a modern young professional woman is present. Kat Stewart, Don Hany, Deborah Mailman, Eddie Perfect, Richard Davies, Linda Cropper, John Waters and Matthew Le Nevez are among the key cast members.
Solid viewership and possible renewal
The series` viewership has been incredibly steady throughout the course of its run, with the last completed fifth series averaging 849,000 viewers per episode, and the season finale ranking Ten`s top performer of the week. Series 6 premiered to 0.959 million viewers, and averaged 0.76 million viewers for the two subsequent episodes. Offspring rates at 8.2/10 on IMDb and has been nominated for a multitude of awards, winning quite a few, including TV Week Logie Awards and an Australian Film Institute Award. There seems to be a perfect chance of Offspring`s renewal for a seventh series, so let`s wait for relevant network announcements regarding the future of the series.
Season 6 recap
Plenty of emotion was exhibited in the explosive sixth season finale of The Offspring on September 14, 2016 when heartbroken Nina Proudman (Asher Keddie) made a crucial decision to not have any more children and move forward with her life, bidding farewell to the past. The 10-episode season of the top-rated Australian drama series concluded on September 14, 2016 with an audience of 0.81 million viewers, ranking #3 on the most-watched programs list of the night. The series’ ratings have been strong and solid over the entire course of its run, and while there no announcements have been made regarding a potential renewal for season seven, there have been hints to support this possibility coming from the cast members. However, the reviews for this season were not as unanimously positive as the preceding ones, and some critics suggested that this may be a perfect time to say goodbye.
