About the series
Flowers is a new British comedy/drama television series airing on Channel 4 since its premiere on April 25, 2016. It is written and directed by Will Sharpe and executive produced by Diederick Santer. The six-episode series hails from Kudos Productions.
The Flowers are an eccentric, or, to be more precise, profoundly dysfunctional, family struggling to remain a family. Maurice and Debra are the husband and wife on the verge of a breakup, with Maurice fighting secrets from the past and Deborah attempting to save their relationship The rest of the characters include a potentially homosexual Japanese illustrator Shun, Maurice`s oddball mother Hattie, socially inept 25-year old twins Amy and Donald, their neighbor Abigail, and others. The self-inflicted problems seem to be endless, and the Flowers seem to be digging themselves in deeper and deeper.
Ratings, current season and renewal potential
The series `premiere episode was seen by 1.26 million viewers. Flowers is rated 8/10 on IMDb. Gloomy and eccentric, it explores the countless way in which a person can feel trapped and lonely, but does not go overboard on the tragedy, balancing brilliantly between sad comedy and sardonic drama. Uniformly excellent performances are mentioned by many reviewers. The show is so unique that we hope that it gets renewed, but not just for the sake of diversity and an alternative take on reality on television – it is truly interesting and has strong potential. Stay tuned and find out whether or not a renewal is indeed in the cards for the show.
