About the show

Peaky Blinders is a period criminal drama television series created and written by Steven Knight. The series has been on the air since 2013 and is currently in its third series that premiered on May 5, 2016. Caryn Mandabach, Greg Brenman, Jamie Glazebrook and Frith Tiplady also executive produce alongside Knight. Peaky Blinders hails from Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Productions.

The series follows the exploits of the Shelbys, a gangster family and is set in Birmingham, England following WWI. The two antagonists are the ambitious gang boss Tommy Sheddy (Cilian Murphy) and Chief Inspector from Belfast Chester Campbell (Sam Neill). It resembles the film Once Upon a Time in America in its scale, sensitivity and ambiance.

Ratings and chances of renewal

The criminal drama originally premiered to over 3 million UK viewers, and the third series lost practically none of the audience, with 2.95 million people tuning in to see the third series premiere. It did, however, lose almost 500,000 viewers between the first and the second episode of the current series, which may possibly attributed to poor sound quality in the indoor scenes, as some viewers have complained. Peaky Blinders has been garnering excellent reviews nonetheless, praising the brilliant actors, beautiful cinematography, meaningful dialogue and compelling storyline. There has been no news regarding Peaky Blinders series 4, so stay tuned and we`ll be sure to keep you informed when a relevant announcement is made.

Series 3 recap

On June 9, 2016 the 6-episode third series of Peaky Blinders has wrapped up on BBC Two. The shocking finale featured the Shelby family`s bad deeds coming back around at them when Tommy reveals that he has struck a deal. Michael (Finn Cole) is almost overpowered by Father Hughes, the evil priest, but manages to pull out a knife and send him to the grave. Another riveting scene, arguing the strongest in this tightly written, breathtaking episode, takes place when Alfie Solomon is revealed as the information leak, and has to face Tommy. Critics complain that the storyline has become overly complicated in the third series, the pace is too fast, and that Tommy Shelby`s entry into high society through his marriage to Grace has made him a less relatable character. The third season finale, however, has been almost universally praised for its intensity and surprising twists. As of now, Peaky Blinders has been renewed for two further series, with no details revealed of any storyline developments, cast changes, or release dates, so please stay tuned for further information.
