Series info and concept
Huang`s World, a new Viceland culinary travelogue hosted by attorney, restaurateur, food personality, writer and chef Eddie Huang has premiered on April 28, 2016. The series features Eddie`s travels all over the globe, venturing out for the best in local culinary traditions, and having a load of fun while at it. The highlights of the freshman season include a marijuana-spiked octopus taco in Tijuana, Mexico, poop-infused coffee in Shanghai, China, $400 caviar in Moscow, Russia, a trip to a local soup kitchen in Detroit, USA.
Current season, reception and renewal potential
Culinary gonzo journalism with an attitude and a sprinkle of ethnography and local politics – what`s not to love? Eddie`s overboard antics, x-rated language, drug use and even violence to farm animals definitely make for adults-only viewing. Huang`s assumed public pose is composed of tough-guy hip-hop attitude and egomania – all measured carefully and professionally. His previous television show – ABC`s sitcom Fresh off the Boat, based on Huang`s memoir – was very well received by both viewers and critics. While that`s certainly not a direct predictor of Huang`s World`s success, it does have significance and indicates the viewers` familiarity with Eddie Huang, which is not a bad thing. There is a very decent chance that we will be seeing more of Huang`s distinctive persona in his fun series in the near future. UPDATED August 31, 2016: The multi-talented and controversial Eddie Huang will be returning to Viceland in the second season of his popular culinary gonzo-style series Huang`s World. The program was recently renewed by the network, and should be airing at some point in the 2016-17 programming season. No further details have been announced at this point, so stay tuned and we`ll bring you the latest release date info and other relevant news as soon as it is revealed.
