Series` background and format

An improvisational comedy panel series, Whose Line Is It Anyway? originally aired on ABC and ABC Family between 1998 and 2007, and was revived on The CW in July 2013. The show was created by Dan Patterson and Mark Levinson and is produced by Hat Trick Productions, Warner Bros. Television, Angst Productions and Warner Horizon Television. Aisha Tyler is the current host and Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie and Wayne Brady are the regular panel members, with a different panel guest taking the fourth seat every episode. All three regular panelists have appeared in the eponymous British show that preceded the US adaptation.

The four panelists engage in short improvisational games, creating characters, sketches and songs right on the spot on the subjects suggested by the audience or preset by the host. There is a score kept, but it`s very arbitrary, with no real competitive element involved, the whole point being the humorous banter rather than winning.

Viewership and renewal prospects

The first two episodes of the current season have averaged above 1.3 million viewers, which is in fact perfectly on par with the previous season`s average. The show is incredibly long-lived, considering the fact that it originated as a radio program in the UK in 1988, and that the three regular panelists have participated in over 250 episodes each. There has been no word on a renewal of Whose Line is it Anyway? For another season, but it has been practically invincible, and with the ratings as steady as it`s delivering its prospects are looking very good. Stay tuned for further information.
