This article has the most up-to-date info on the status of Roadies season 2 as we continuously monitor the news to keep you in the know. Unfortunately, Showtime has officially canceled the series. There will be no season 2.
Series info and concept
Roadies is a Showtime original comedy and drama series. Created and executive produced by Cameron Crowe, the show has premiered on June 26, 2016, J.J. Abrams, Winnie Holzman, Bryan Burk and Lan Goldstein also executive produce the series, which hails from Bad Robot Productions, Vinyl Films, Dooley & Company Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
A behind-the-scenes look at the multi-city rock band tour, Roadies focuses on the road crew that actually makes the tour happen. Bill (Luke Wilson), the tour manager of the fictional The Staton House Band and Shelli, tour production manager lead the crew through thick and thin of the tour. The rest of the cast includes Rafe Spall (Reg Whitehead), Imogen Poots (Kelly Ann), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Donna Mancini), Peter Cambor (Milo), Colson Baker (Wes) and Ron White (Phil).
Criticism, ratings and renewal potential
The show`s been criticized for major industry inaccuracies, and for the fact that it does not portray the roadies` life as they are attending to specific tour-related matters, but rather concentrates on their personal lives. This indeed makes it one in a series of similar workplace comedies that may take place against any setting. Of course, Roadies is not claiming to be a reality series or a documentary program, so it is allowed a certain amount of leeway with the material. The show has a reasonable 6.9/10 IMDb score and draws an average of 0.34 million viewers for the first three episodes of its freshman season. The season contains 10 episodes, so there`s still time to monitor the ratings and see whether or not the show is likely to be renewed for a second chapter.
Season 1 recap
Although far from perfect, the first chapter of Showtime`s Roadies was charming, heartfelt and fun to watch. The 10-episode freshman season wrapped up on August 28, 2016, delivering low-key but steady ratings just above 0.3 million viewers. 0.308 million fans tuned in to see the season finale, which scored a 0.08 demo rating. Episode 10, The Load Out, was neatly filled with problems being resolved and everything generally coming together in a very constructive way. From Shelli leaving her husband for Bill, to the small details, like Reg finding his Fendi case, and Kelly Ann finally getting a nickname of her own, Roadies ended the rocky season on a very pure and sincere note. Whether the struggling show will get a second chance at Showtime has yet to be determined, and the fact that the network hasn`t announced its decision is not necessarily hinting at cancelation. We have faith in its potential and hope that it does get a chance to develop further. Stay tuned, and we will inform you when Showtime`s decision is announced.
