Show summary and storyline
Inspector George Gently is a British TV series set in the 1960s and based on Alan Hunter’s 46 “Inspector Gently” novels. Produced by Company Pictures, the show originally premiered on BBC One on April 8, 2007 and returned for season seven on April 29, 2015.
Martin Shaw plays George Gently, a Chief Inspector for the fictitious North East Police Constabulary, who is trying to deal with the increasingly blurred lines between police and criminals in the 1960s. Faced with increased drug offenses and U.K’s youth on the brink of a social and sexual revolution, the Inspector and his team are investigating crimes portrayed in the books. The series opens in the early 1964 when capital punishment is still in effect in Britain, and progresses through the decade in seven seasons.
