Series information and cast

An American criminal drama series Longmire originated on the A&E network, ran for three seasons between 2012 and 2014, was canceled and subsequently picked up by Netflix. The most recent fifth season was made available to Netflix subscribers on September 23, 2016. The show is based on Walt Longmire Mysteries, a popular book series authored by Craig Johnson and developed by John Coveny and Hunt Baldwin.

The series is set in the fictional Absaroka County, Wyoming and portrays the professional and personal aspects of the lives of local police officers. Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) is the veteran county sheriff out of a classic Western – honest, charismatic, tough and straightforward. Vic Moretti is the sheriff’s deputy and a recent Philadelphia transplant, Henry Standing Bear (Lou Diamond Philips) is Walt’s best friend, a Cheyenne Indian owner of the local dive. Cady (Cassidy Freeman) is Walt’s daughter who secretly dates deputy Branch Connally (Bailey Chase), a man who plans to challenge Walt’s plans for reelection as sheriff and whose methods are questionable, to say the least.

Current season, reception and renewal potential

The current season picks up right where season 4 has left off when Walt and Donna were shot at by an unknown perpetrator. In the season premiere Walt wakes up in the hospital and has to figure out what has happened and who is out to hunt him down, as well as whether his relationship with Donna will go on. Another issue for Walt this season is his daughter`s betrayal.

The series has been well received in both of its incarnations on both networks, and has an 8.2/10 IMDb rating. While on A&E, Longmire drew a stable audience of 3.5-4.5 million viewers, and since its move to Netflix we no longer have a way to figure out how the show is doing in terms of viewership. The only proof of its reasonably-sized audience is the fact that it was renewed for season five, which is its second installment on Netflix. There has been no news on a potential sixth season, so please stay tuned, and we`ll inform you as soon as Netflix reveals its decision on the future of Longmire.
