Basic information
Hardcore Pawn is a reality TV series that chronicles the day-to-day operations of a family-owned and operated pawn shop in Detroit. Created and produced for truTV by Richard Dominick, the show set the record for the most watched premiere on August 16, 2010 and is currently in its ninth season. Hardcore Pawn season 9 returned to truTV on December 29, 2014 with the season finale airing on April 6, 2015.
The series features the business and personal life of Leslie “Les” Gold, owner of American Jewelry and Loan, and the drama that often accompanies staring on a reality TV show. Hardcore Pawn has been compared to another hit show called Pawn Stars, but the producers have always maintained that any similarities are coincidental. Audiences have raised questions regarding the show’s authenticity when a New York Post writer opined that some situations in the show are set up.
Current season, reviews and possible renewal
With a total of 162 episodes over nine seasons, Hardcore Pawn was once the network’s most successful series. Following a record setting premiere, the show peaked during season six, pulling in 2.6 million viewers. As ratings tapered out, online reviews began to sink registering just 4.8 out of 10 on IMDB. The network has kept quiet since the April season finale regarding the fate of the show. Given the slipping ratings, we would be surprised if Hardcore Pawn is renewed for season 10.
