Sitcom plot and production info
Created by Greg Davies, Man Down is a British sitcom airing on Channel 4 since 2013. The show is written by Davies, Stephen Morrison, Sian Harries, Andrew Collins and Richard Herring, executive produced by James Taylor, Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday and Toby Stevens and produced by Avalon Television. The show is currently in the third season, which premiered on July 13, 2016 with 6 new episodes.
Greg Davies stars as Dan, an immature teacher who hates his job and whose life is constantly in flux. He is unable to navigate the most basic life challenges, and is kept down by his father (late Rik Mayall) in the first series, and his equally inept group of friends further on. The man-child concept is a classic comedy staple, and Man Down makes the most of the continuous identity crisis that Dan finds himself in, although some reviewers criticize it for losing pace and being stuck in a rut plot-wise.
Recent reviews and prospects of renewal
The current season features Dan finally handing in his resignation latter, and it may mean that series’ creators are aiming for a turnaround in his life, and laying new ground for some serious plot twists. However, it’s unclear whether or not they’ll be able to do it before the critics and the viewers are fed up with the immaturity, which is getting repetitive in this particular depiction. The reviewers during the current series broadcast are getting somewhat impatient and hoping for a major overhaul of the narrative. Series 3 premiered to 1.47 million viewers, slipping to 1.17 million and then 0.92 million viewers. Will there be another installment, or has the show outlived itself? Stay tuned, and we will let you know what Channel 4 has decided in regard to Man Down.
