Show background and info

An American comedy sketch TV series inspired by the cult Mad magazine, MADtv has aired on Fox between 1995 and 2009, and was recently revived by The CW. The premiere of the revamped show took place on July 26, 2016. The 15th season, the first to air on The CW, contains eight episodes and is produced by Image Nation and Telepictures. David E. Salzman, Mark Teitelbaum and John Montgomery are executive producing the variety show.

The current season features both new and nineteen returning participants, with Nicole Sullivan and Will Sasso appearing briefly in the season premiere. The repertory cast for season 15 includes Carlie Craig, Chelsea Davison, Jeremy D. Howard, Amir K., Lyric Lewis, Piotr Michael, Michelle Ortiz and Adam Ray.

Viewership and renewal prospects

The revived series follows the original format, featuring pop-culture references and parodies, politically incorrect jokes and young comedians’ voices. A solid audience of 0.81 million viewers tuned in to see The CW premiere of MADtv after the seven-year hiatus, with the subsequent three episodes maintaining a 0.64 million average. There was a MadTV 20th anniversary special broadcast in January 2016, and the revival of the series followed the success of the special. The January special drew an impressive audience of 1.7 million viewers and scored a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and its success may very well carry it over into a second season.
