About the series
The Katering Show is an Australian comedy show produced by Lead Balloon Productions and airing on ABC AU since 2015. It is created and written by and stars Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, and is executive produced by the duo alongside Rick Kalowski, Brett Sleigh and Kevin Whyte. The episodes run short, approximately 10 minutes each. The first web series contained 6 episodes, and the current second chapter that premiered on TV on August 3, 2016, is comprised of 8 parts. Series 1 was released on YouTube, and series 2 was made available through ABC iview VOD platform in April, and subsequently aired on television.
The show parodies numerous cooking shows and makes fun of the fleeting food trends. The themes have included ethical eating, food porn, no-sugar diets, yummie mummies, red ramen and many others. Self-described as a food intolerant and an intolerable foodie, the hosts explore the food-related themes in a witty and sharp manner.
Excellent reception and future prospects
The series has an excellent 8.9/10 IMDb score and enjoys great critical reception. The second series premiered to a very healthy audience of 612,000, but went under the radar immediately afterwards. It is the most-watched original series on ABC`s streaming service, and its YouTube channel has 6.6 million views. The shiny forced-smile world of perfect kitchens and perfect recipes is whiplashed by the brilliant delivery of the two hosts. It seems very likely that another series of The Katering Show is going to be commissioned, so please stay tuned for relevant news.
